What says cool and calm better than a set of sheer, flowing drapes? For interior designer Lynne Biase, these beautiful, organic window treatments are always a good bet. In addition to providing an elegant aesthetic that enhances interiors, sheer curtains can also diffuse light, while still maintaining some privacy. “Unlike heavy drapes, they create an airy and serene atmosphere, even when fully closed," she says.

Opting for sheer drapes also presents an opportunity to be more environmentally considerate. “Eco-conscious fabrics like linen and cotton align with sustainability and wellness-focused design preferences,” adds Biase. “This shift reflects a broader move toward understated, adaptable designs that prioritize comfort and tranquility.”

Tech-Savvy Treatments

From voice-activated faucets to self-cleaning toilets, tech and automation have hugely transformed the ways in which we engage with our homes. This is indelibly true when it comes to window treatments—in the last few years, automated shading has jumped from a highly technical commercial luxury to becoming a standard in luxury homes, according to interior designer Isfira Jensen. This includes motorized blind systems that can be controlled remotely; some can even calibrate the optimal daylight and energy efficiency for your home.  

“Motorized treatments are a must-have,” echoes Scot Dietz, founder and head designer at custom window coverings company 3 Blind Mice. These advancements allow for a highly personalized experience, enhancing both functionality and aesthetic appeal.

Dramatic Drapes

“I foresee drapery taking center stage in the coming year,” says interior designer Lucinda Loya. Favoring fuller textile expressions over roller blinds, Loya adds that, in addition to framing a space and absorbing sound, drapery completes a room, making it feel more tailored.

Deciding from the hundreds of existing drapery styles can be a stressful decision, though. Thankfully, Loya has some tips: “For a luxurious look, the classic French or pinched pleat is a timeless drapery style that suits any setting—even more so now as we're seeing a resurgence of Art Deco and 1920's and 30's influences."

Neutral and Natural

The biophilic trend continues to shape the design industry in 2025, and there’s no better place to embrace natural materials than in rooms full of natural light. Incorporating organic elements into window treatments further bridges the gap between indoors and outdoors, adding an even more direct connection with nature. Designers are increasingly turning to blinds and shades crafted from materials like bamboo, hemp, and wood, which also offer tactile charm.

While there was a clear (and expected) consensus among the designers surveyed on the popularity of warm, neutral tones—think ecru, beige, greige, and even sage—many expert voices also pointed to a resurgence of jewel-like hues. Richly saturated colors are gaining popularity, especially in window treatments, where they make a bold design statement.
