Nearly 90,000 Tabletop Fire Pits Recalled After Reports of Burn Injuries

On October 17, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) issued the recall of 89,500 Colsen brand tabletop fire pits. The recall was initiated after CPSC received 31 reports of "flame jetting and flames escaping" from the fire pits. So far there have been 19 reported burn injuries from the fire pits.

According to CPSC, "Flame jetting is a serious event that can occur while pouring alcohol, when fire flashes back to the alcohol container and suddenly propels burning alcohol out of the container and onto people nearby." They advise that alcohol can splash, spill, or leak out of the fire pit reservoir while using it. This could potentially lead to a flash fire that can spread and create larger, hotter flames outside of the unit.

If you've purchased any of the seven models of the Colsen-branded tabletop fire pits between January 2020 to July 2024 from the brand's website, TikTok, Meta, Grommet, FlipShop, Sharper Image, Amazon, Wayfair, and Walmart, the CPSC says consumers should immediately stop using and dispose them. Using the recalled fire pits can quickly lead to injury, creating burns in less than one second. This could be serious and possibly deadly.

All of the affected models have an open concrete alcohol reservoir and can vary in size, color, and shape. They range from 5 to 18 inches wide and were available in gray or black. The products can also be round, square, rectangular, hexagonal, or skull-shaped and were sold for $40-$90.

In their announcement, Colsen is not offering any refunds on the recalled products but urged consumers to stop using them and dispose of it in your trash.
