Pantone just announced its Color of the Year 2025—and it's a major departure from last year's soft peach hue. The company has chosen PANTONE 17-1230 Mocha Mousse—a mellow brown that's practical and simultaneously elevated—as its 2025 shade.

The rich color is sophisticated and lush, asserting itself as an unpretentious classic. "Underpinned by our desire for everyday pleasures, PANTONE 17-1230 Mocha Mousse expresses a level of thoughtful indulgence," Leatrice Eiseman, executive director at Pantone Color Institute says. She adds that this shade alters people's perception of brown as a humble and grounded shade to one that's aspirational and luxe.

While this color feels elevated and expensive, it also has an approachable earthy quality that can connect spaces to the natural world. "Infused with subtle elegance and earthy refinement, PANTONE 17-1230 Mocha Mousse presents a discrete and tasteful touch of glamour," says Eiseman. "A flavorful brown shade, PANTONE 17-1230 Mocha Mousse envelopes us with its sensorial warmth.”

The warm hue evokes a feeling of comfort and harmony throughout the home, whether it's used on flooring, painted on the wall, or within home décor. "Harmony brings feelings of contentment, inspiring a positive state of inner peace, calm, and balance as well as the synthesis of our mental, spiritual, and physical well-being," Laurie Pressman, vice president of the Pantone Color Institute says. "With that in mind, for Pantone Color of the Year 2025, we look to a color that reaches into our desire for comfort and wellness, and the indulgence of simple pleasures that we can gift and share with others."
