GameTop compared these terms on a state level to determine which had the highest average monthly search volume in 2024. The totals from each state and movie were added together to provide a final ranking for the U.S.

Based on this data, GameTop determined that the most-loved Christmas movie in the country is Home Alone. A fan-favorite since 1990, this film is still capturing the hearts of many. It had 637,260 average monthly searches, according to GameTop.

Second place was awarded to another holiday classic—Elf, featuring Will Ferrel and Zoey Deschanel. GameTop found that this festive comedy about a Christmas elf that travels to Manhattan to meet his dad for the first time received 581,180 average monthly searches throughout 2024.

While it may come as a surprise, the comedy horror film Gremlins claimed third place. This movie follows a cast of tiny creatures called 'mogwai' as they terrorize a small town on Christmas Eve. The cult favorite film received 465,320 average monthly searches this year, according to GameTop.

Rounding out the top five is the beloved British romantic comedy Love Actually (334,740 average monthly searches) and the 1988 action movie Die Hard (327,150 average monthly searches).
