However, this year, she and her family spent the holiday a little differently—abroad in Rome, and the itinerary was perfect. Martha shared that she was spending Thanksgiving in Rome with her daughter Alexis and two grandchildren, Jude and Truman, during an interview with People. "My grandchildren will get mad at me. They think they're going on vacation for five days, but in fact, we are going to see everything. I've planned quite a trip," she said. Martha's Thanksgiving Will Look a Lot Different This Year—See Her Holiday Plans Here Tour of the Vatican and Lunch at Alfredo On Martha's first day touring Rome, she and her family took an extensive walking tour of the Vatican, which included exploring the Dome of St. Peters. She stopped for lunch at Alfredo, where the legendary fettuccine Alfredo dish originated. "So delicious!!" she wrote in an Instagram post. In the evening, Martha visited the Pantheon, a former Roman temple, and the Church of Saint Vincent and Anastasius at Trevi Fountain. "I had forgotten the science that went into its construction," she wrote. "Also a visit to St Vincenzo to see the creative use of painting in the "domed" nave ceiling as well as the "faux dome" painted ceiling in the center dome." Evening Tour of the Coliseum Next on the itinerary was an after-hours tour of the Coliseum. To commemorate her day, Martha shared photos on her Instagram of the amphitheater, a family picture, and a snap of a cat she saw while exploring. "Wonderful after hours tour of the Coliseum in Rome Complete with cat sightings, stories of the ancient games and rituals we all loved the hour spent touring above ground and below," the caption read. Exclusive Tour of the Sistine Chapel Martha and her family also enjoyed a private, one-hour guided tour of the Sistine Chapel. "We went very very early 6:30 am to visit the chapel in the quiet of the early morning," she captioned an Instagram post featuring the numerous keys to the Sistine Chapel. "We saw the treasures of the Vatican prior to viewing the chapel itself Our guide was very eloquent and informative and we all learned new facts about the creation of the many paintings so carefully preserved and protected in this glorious place," she wrote. In another post, Martha shared a handful of pictures she took from inside the Sistine Chapel.
