Plant-Based Meat Sold Nationwide Recalled Due to Possible Metal Contamination

The United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has issued a recall of almost 79,000 cases of plant-based ground sausage due to potential foreign matter contamination. The impacted products were sold in retail locations nationwide.

There are two varieties of Impossible brand products included in the recall: Savory Ground Sausage Meat with UPC 8 16697 02108 8 and Spicy Ground Sausage Meat with UPC 8 16697 02109 5. The spicy products have use-by dates ranging from June 28, 2025 to January 28, 2026. The savory products have use-by dates ranging from July 3, 2025 to January 25, 2026.

The recall was initiated because the plant-based products may contain pieces of metal, posing a risk to consumers. The FDA has classified this recall as a Class II recall, which is defined as: "a situation in which use of, or exposure to, a violative product may cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences or where the probability of serious adverse health consequences is remote."

There have been no reported illnesses or injuries related to this recall to date. If you have the affected plant-based meat products in your refrigerator or freezer, dispose of them or return them to your place of purchase for a refund.
