Getting into bed at night is one of the small pleasures of the day—a time for relaxation, comfort, and rest. What's not on that list? Your bed breaking or collapsing with you in it, which is the reason for a recent recall of over half a million beds.

On January 18, the Consumer Product Safety Commission issued a recall of over 580,000 beds from the brand Home Design, Inc. According to the recall notice, the beds can break, sag, or collapse during use. About 527,177 beds were recalled in the United States, with an additional 55,847 beds recalled in Canada. The beds were sold at popular retailers such as Wayfair, Walmart.com, and Overstock.com from July 2018 through November 2023.

If you purchased a bed from these retailers during that period, check for these product numbers:

  • Home Design Part number 80002 Tufted Upholstered Low Profile Standard Beds
  • Home Design Part number 80032 Tufted Upholstered Low Profile Standard Beds
  • Home Design Part number 80055 Tufted Upholstered Low Profile Standard Beds
  • Home Design Part number 80071 Tufted Upholstered Low Profile Platform Beds
  • Home Design Part number 80053 Tufted Upholstered Low Profile Platform Beds

The bed frames were manufactured in various colors such as black, gray, beige, and blue and covered most bed sizes: twin, full, queen, and king.

Currently, there have been 128 reports of these beds breaking, sagging, or collapsing during use, with 36 reported injuries. If you have one of these beds, the CPSC recommends to stop using it and contact Home Design for free replacement slats and side rails. To do so, email an image of the bed plus the law label (found on the back of the headboard) or proof of purchase to recall@homedesign-us.com.
