If you love purple, you're about to see a lot of it as Glidden Paint by PPG just announced their 2025 Color of the Year: Purple Basil (PPG1046-7). According to the brand, the high-impact hue represents self-discovery and self-expression and the maximalism style so many are tapping into while revamping their homes.

While it's a more bold option than 2024's minimalist Limitless shade, Purple Basil will add energy to any space. Use it to create an accent wall to liven up your living room, on your kitchen cabinets for a warm pop of color while cooking, on trim instead of classic wood tones, or as an exterior accent to add curb appeal on your shutters, architectural trim, or mailbox.

"So many people start their color selection journey looking at bold hues, but ultimately settle for a more expected or muted color," Ashley McCollum, Glidden PPG color expert, said in a press release. "This year we are encouraging these 'color chip daydreamers,' as we call them, to put aside trepidation about what the neighbors will think or potential resale value. For 2025, purple isn't just permitted, it is encouraged."

If you're looking to refresh your space, opting for a shade like Purple Basil will bring any room to life. It strays from traditional, muted, and neutral hues and adds a pop of color that will help you embrace your self-expression and discovery as a homeowner. Pair it with an abstract or vintage-style wallpaper, "color drench" an entire room with the color, or paint the ceiling of your bedroom the dramatic shade—the options are endless.

"Warm, energetic purples can be seen across historical design aesthetics, including Arts and Crafts, Organic Modern, Art Moderne or Postmodern styles," McCollum says. "Designers and homeowners can recreate those styles or reinterpret them in a contemporary way, using Purple Basil in a less traditional way, on ceilings, built-in bookcases or kitchen cabinets."
