Egg bakes are easy and pleasing, on that we can agree—but this popular dish can also be a source of controversy. Some assert an egg bake is just another name for an egg casserole. Others state that egg bake recipes are the same as strata or savory bread pudding recipes. And, a third group asserts that egg bake is the term for a wider group of egg-based dishes that are baked in the oven—including quiches and frittatas.

The common ground in this contentious matter is that egg bakes always include eggs and are a meal-in-one dish. They are popular at breakfast, but egg bakes can (and should be!) served for brunch, lunch, or dinner, too. Ahead, see our eight favorite egg bakes—no controversy required.
